How to Straighten Hair Without Damage: 7 Pro Tips

Sleek, straight hair doesn't have to mean fried ends. Here's how to get the look while keeping your hair healthy.

1. Always use heat protectant

Non-negotiable. It creates a barrier between your hair and the plates.

2. Start completely dry

Straightening damp hair causes that sizzling sound — which is steam damaging your strands.

3. Use the right temperature

Fine hair: 150–170°C. Normal: 170–190°C. Thick/coarse: 190–210°C. Start low and only go higher if needed.

4. Choose ceramic plates

Ceramic distributes heat evenly, so you won't need multiple passes over the same section.

5. Work in thin sections

One smooth pass on a thin section beats five passes on a thick one.

6. Don't go over the same strand repeatedly

Two passes max. Repeated passes = cumulative damage.

7. Deep-condition weekly

Replenish moisture to keep hair resilient against heat styling.
